Songs for Viola, Cello, and Piano
In an interview with the composer, Jaesin Lee said, “The instruments that rarely sing and mainly fill in the harmonies are those in the middle and lower registers,” adding, “Their sounds are actually very beautiful — just lower in range. In this album, I wanted to let them take the spotlight and show the moment when they truly sing.”
Born in Gwang-ju, South Korea, composer Jaesin Lee went over to Germany after he graduated from high school to achieve master’s in composition at The Liszt School of Music Weimar, Germany.
When he was still a student, his works were requested from L`ensemble Arcema (France) and MDR Symphony Orchestra (Germany) to be performed in Europe. Especially The Concerto for 2Groups played by MDR Symphony Orchestra was broadcast on German radio and created a sensation along with excellent critiques. Since he came back to South Korea in 2005, Jaesin Lee has been establishing his musical career throughout a number of collaborations involving visual and performing arts.
The feature-length film The Last Dining Table (2006), with which he debuted as musical director, was given a first-rate critique from the Variety (magazine) as well as several invitations from world-renowned film festivals including Sundance and the Rotterdam. After that, he published 'Jaesin Lee's Theory of Film Music (2014)' based on his experiences and focused on dramatic music. In recent years, as a result of studies, he has presented Musikdrama and opera in succession. In particular, His grand opera '1953' was elected as the 'New Opera of the Year' by the Korea Arts Council. (2018, premiere)
Recent new works include Opera "Jeom-rye and Young-ja(comfort women)," which premiered in 2021, and "The Study of Opera and Art Song," published in 2020.
Currently he is teaching as college tutor as well as a registered member of The Korean Society of the 21st Century Music and Seoul Composers Forum.
